FTI expands Brussels public affairs team with seven senior hires

FTI Consulting has made seven senior appointments within its public affairs and corporate comms practices in Brussels, including senior hires from within the European Commission.

The new appointments include four senior directors: Massimo Baldinato, who previously worked with the European Commission vice-president and will specialise in the TMT sector; John Clancy, ex-spokesperson to former EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, who will specialise in political communications; Kyra Obolensky, who has worked in corporate comms and public affairs for more than nine years; and Roeland Van der Stappen, former policy adviser at the European Round Table of Industrialists.

The other new hires are: former Hill+Knowlton public affairs consultant Robrecht Vandormael (director); Maria Tsoni (senior consultant), formerly an assistant case handler at the European Commission's Directorate General for Competition; and consultant Matilda Wallmon, formerly of MHP in Brussels.

The appointments take FTI’s strategic comms arm in Brussels up to 60 people.

Julia Harrison, senior MD and managing partner in the Strategic Communications segment of FTI Consulting, said: "We are expanding at a great pace and working on some of the most interesting issues and campaigns of our day. Bringing together public affairs and communications in a business advisory firm offers a unique perspective and means we have been able to build a great team for the benefit of our international clients."

The expansion of the Brussels public affairs team follows a similar move in London late last year, where former Labour health secretary Patricia Hewitt was among six new appointments in the UK public affairs practice.
