NEWBURYPORT, MA: Matter Communications has acquired search marketing firm Search Maven Media, the agency said Monday morning.

Through the deal, Search Maven Media founder Aaron Katz has become director of search marketing at Matter. He is reporting to Parry Headrick, VP of marketing and communications at the firm, said Matter CEO Scott Signore.

Search Maven’s "small handful" of staffers has joined Matter, said Signore. The exact number of new employees was not disclosed.

He added that the acquisition is exciting for Matter because it will allow the firm to incorporate SEO and search engine marketing efforts into its paid, earned, and owned content for PR and social media clients.

"It’s a profitable acquisition from point of entry," he said. "The firm has a dynamic book of business, and a foray into offering new services is part of what we do."

Signore declined to name Search Maven’s clients, but he said they are a mix of consumer, b-to-b, and technology accounts.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Search Maven marks Matter’s third acquisition in the last three years. The firm bought The Hollenbeck Group as a way to expand on the West Coast in 2013. The year before that, it acquired ThinkMedia Partners to work with clients across high tech and financial services.
