The issue of our time: is #TheDress blue and black or white and gold?

The Internet nearly exploded Thursday night after a 21-year-old from Scotland innocently enough posted an image of a dress on Tumblr, asking whether it’s blue and black or white and gold.

Throughout the evening and into Friday morning, #TheDress blew up on Facebook and Twitter, driving a wedge between friends and family members and giving brands an opportunity to get in on the debate.

While some scientists are perplexed about the color split, others have chocked it up to how "human eyes and brains have evolved to see color in a sunlit world," according to Wired.

Dozens of companies tweeted about #TheDress, but Lego, Pizza Hut, and Denny’s received some of the highest marks for their posts.
