Waggener Edstrom expands African presence with six new partners

Waggener Edstrom has announced six new strategic partners in Africa, including Core Public Relations, Corporate Talk Group, Exclamation Marketing, Hotwire PRC, Lift Consulting and XLR8.

The move will extend the agency’s service network to 18 new markets in Africa and more than 100 globally.

The agency opened its first office in South African in 2010, and the company’s business in the region has grown more than 35 per cent per year since then.

In December last year, head of Johannesburg office Marcus Sorour was relocated to take up the role of general manager in the UK. He was replaced by James Wilson, who previously worked for Microsoft, one of the agency’s clients.

Wilson will be responsible for integration between the agency and its new partners, as well as leading existing pan-regional accounts across the continent.

Johannesburg will serve as an African hub for clients in the region, which include Nissan, SolarCentury and Microsoft.

Chris Talago, executive vice-president and general manager at Waggener Edstrom EMEA, said: "As companies look to engage their customers through storytelling across more channels and markets, the growing importance of the African continent is becoming increasingly obvious.

"We launched our office in Johannesburg five years ago in the knowledge that the continent was primed for growth, but also in the belief that all communications is ultimately local. Our new partners bring local expertise, allowing us to extend our quality of service and our consistent focus on results to additional markets."
