With its wages long the target of employee protests, Walmart said Thursday that it is giving 500,000 workers a raise, moving up its wage floor to $9 in two months and a dollar higher by next February.

The world’s largest retailer explained the wage boost via an open letter from CEO Doug McMillon, a video posted on YouTube, and an infographic.
