WASHINGTON: MWW has appointed Robert Knott as senior MD in the firm’s Washington, DC, office, a newly created role.
Knott started at MWW on January 26, reporting to founder and CEO Michael Kempner. The firm is still determining how many staffers he will oversee.
Knott explained that MWW is moving towards a matrix structure so it can more clearly define vertical competencies in areas such as energy, financial services, manufacturing, chemicals, and finance. The reorganization will also cover horizontal services, such as organizational positioning, issues management, CSR, and multi-stakeholder communications.
"I aim to win business and do truly outstanding client work," said Knott. "The culture at MWW is highly collaborative and fiercely focused on clients and breakthrough thinking."
Knott joined MWW from FTI Consulting, where he was senior MD and corporate communications leader for the Americas in the firm’s strategic communications unit. He was tasked with driving the practice’s growth and new business opportunities. Knott, who started at FTI in January 2012, also worked with other groups at the firm to develop its corporate communications services.
With Knott’s departure, Doug Donsky, senior MD of the strategic communications practice at FTI and head of the firm’s financial services sector team in the Americas, was named acting lead of FTI’s corporate comms team, according to a spokesperson from the agency. Donsky will also continue to handle his prior responsibilities.
Prior to FTI, Knott worked at Edelman for 12 years, where he served as global practice chairman and global client relationship manager.
In the past six months, MWW made a number of senior hires, including Arthur Schwartz as SVP and MD in the firm’s corporate communications practice and Jess Seilheimer, former SVP of digital innovation and strategic planning at Havas, as chief strategy officer.
Fifteen-year MWW veteran Joe Cohen departed his role at the firm in September to join Kind Healthy Snacks as SVP of communications.
