The nine-year-old agency, run by managing director John Lehal, said its work had included more than government affairs for a long time and that it reached "beyond Westminster and Whitehall".

The announcement was made in a letter sent to clients and potential clients this week.

Lehal explained how the rebranded ICG would also provide strategic counsel on commercial strategy, corporate comms and reputation management advice.

He added: "As power has devolved locally; as citizens have become powerful advocates; and as the media and technology evolve, so too has the advice and programmes we deliver. We are rebranding to become ICG to properly reflect this evolution."

In April last year, the agency joined a five-strong international network of lobbying agencies set up by US member Blue Star Strategies, with other members in Europe and Asia.
