Former Unilever marcomms head Cea rejoins Porter Novelli as global consumer lead

Before joining Unilever in 2006, Christine Cea worked in Porter Novelli's London and New York offices from 1999 to 2005.

NEW YORK: Christine Cea, former senior director of marketing communications at Unilever, has rejoined Porter Novelli as global consumer practice leader.

Cea, who stepped down from her post at Unilever last May, started at Porter on Monday. Based in New York, she is reporting to CEO Karen van Bergen and is a member of the firm’s executive committee advisory board. The position is new.

Prior to joining Unilever in 2006, Cea worked at Porter in its London and New York offices from 1999 to 2005. She did consulting work between 2005 and 2006.

Cea said she decided to return to the Omnicom Group agency because of its "momentum in new business wins, staff with really strong talent, PRWeek’s Best Places to Work ranking, and exciting leadership."

She added that the firm is a good cultural fit with its heritage in social impact marketing, and she wanted to take a position with global opportunities.

While Cea said it is too early for her to tell what consumer sectors and regions she plans to focus on, she explained that she wants to grow the practice both in terms of new clients and talent.

Cea, who served as chair of judges for the 2013 PRWeek Awards, most recently led marketing and communications for a range of brands at Unilever, such as Ragu, Dove, Lipton, Vaseline, Hellmann's, Suave, Axe, and Breyer's. She also oversaw social media and word-of-mouth marketing initiatives in her most recent role at the CPG giant that started in 2012.

In 2014, Cea won PRWeek’s In-House PR Professional of the Year honorable mention. She was also a mainstay on PRWeek’s Power List during her time at Unilever, ranking number 47 in 2012 and number 37 in 2011.
