Madano promotes Nick Turton to head energy practice

Business comms consultancy Madano has promoted Nick Turton, formerly head of news for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), to head its energy practice and announced a further two appointments in the division.

Rory Edwards and Gareth Turner both join from civil service roles. Edwards was senior comms manager at Ofgem and joins as an account director. Turner joins as an account executive from the Home Office and previously worked for Instinctif Partners.

It follows the appointment late last year of Michael Evans as managing partner.

Turton, who spent more than 15 years in government and Whitehall and was part of the team that established DECC in 2008, said: "We’re building something unique in Madano’s energy practice, matching a team with proven, first-hand insight with an exciting range of clients from across the energy sector.

"The growth of the team and of our client base means we’re well placed to compete for more wins in the coming months."

Turton joined Madano last summer as a director.

Madano, which in 2013 was bought by Canadian group National Public Relations, recently started working with Frontier Economics to develop a range of energy market scenarios for 2030, a project funded by the Energy Technologies Institute. Other recent account wins in the energy sector include a brief to promote innovative green technology across northern Europe for BioenNW.

Last year Madano won an account with Tees Valley Unlimited, the body leading the development of industrial carbon capture and storage.
