The Sun denies dropping Page 3

After neither confirming nor denying the ending of Page 3, the Sun has finally dismissed speculation that it has stopped publishing pictures of topless women.

In today’s Sun, Page 3 features a topless woman with the caption: "Further to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that this is Page 3 and this is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth.

"We would like to apologise on behalf of the print and broadcast journalists who have spent the last two days talking and writing about us."

On Tuesday The Sun’s sister paper The Times said the tabloid would scrap the feature, while other reports claimed that pictures would be included online rather than in print.

A tweet from Dylan Sharpe, head of PR at The Sun, read:

The reports have sparked widespread debate on Twitter amongst celebrities and politicians. It also fuelled the campaign group No More Page 3, which was set up in 2012.

Today’s news has prompted further speculation from the Telegraph and ITV that the whole thing has been a stunt.
