Your call: Should PR majors take fewer writing courses?

Take our poll on whether PR students should still be taking advanced writing courses.

PRWeek columnist and University of South Carolina professor Shannon Bowen set off a debate this week when she said one writing class is enough for PR students.

"The PR function has clearly evolved into a management discipline, as opposed to simply a communications function," she said in her column. "As such, there is simply no need for multiple writing courses as an essential part of PR majors."

Bowen added: "Potential employers often tell me they want to hire business, history, and philosophy majors because they can think critically – and they can be quickly trained in PR writing style."
