Lib Dems hire Quiller's Ruwan Kodikara in comms shake-up

The Liberal Democrats have recruited Quiller senior consultant Ruwan Kodikara to the role of head of media and brand for the Deputy Prime Minister in preparation for the party's general election campaign.

It follows the promotion of Phil Riley, who previously held the role, to a speech writing position for Nick Clegg ahead of the May election.

Kodikara, who is based in Number 10 and becomes a special adviser to Clegg, was previously a senior consultant at Quiller. Prior to that he was associate director at MHP Communications. Kodikara is also chairman of Kingston & Surbiton Liberal Democrats and treasurer of the body Lib Dems in Communications.

The Liberal Democrats have yet to be as explicit as the Conservatives or Labour in launching their campaigns for the forthcoming general election.

Last week the Conservative Party unveiled its first election poster campaign, featuring the image of a road, listing the party’s achievements in power and featuring the strapline: "Let's stay on the road to a stronger economy."

Labour has said its own campaign kicks off the week after, with a greater focus on direct engagement with the public, according to the party’s election co-ordinator Douglas Alexander.
