The Forum was established 18 years ago by environmental luminaries including Jonathon Porritt and Sara Parkin and works with businesses and governments to address complex sustainability problems.
McLachlan, who took up her role this month, was previously Porritt’s strategic advisor and, previous to that, was general manager of sustainability at Sony Europe.
During her tenure at Sony, McLachlan helped develop ‘Futurescapes’; a collaboration with the Forum which explored how technology could support more sustainable lifestyles by 2025.
McLachlan said: "I know first-hand how valuable Forum is from working with them on the multi-award-winning, pan-European Futurescapes innovation project, which yielded some powerful concept ideas now in development. I am thrilled to take on the brief of ensuring Forum’s transformative potential is fully recognised, and of applying an integrated, creative planning approach to driving behaviour change on global initiatives."
Earlier in her career, McLachlan was director of communications for the sustainable development commission, which was chaired by Porritt and she has worked as a copywriter for Interbrand and as a brand strategist for clients including Unilever.
Her role at the Forum will involve expanding its membership and communicating its innovations while helping to realise its ambition of globalising the brand.

Forum for the Future hires its first director of communications
Forum for the Future, a non-profit organisation focused on sustainability issues, has hired Esther Maughan McLachlan as its director of communications and networks.
