NEW YORK: Former Hillshire Brands CCO Jon Harris is transitioning from announcer to correspondent for The Meredith Vieira Show as he looks to return to the communications profession in 2015.
Harris, who made his debut as announcer for the show in September, said he took on a correspondent position last month when he moved from New York back to Chicago to be with his wife and children. He has several more segments airing on the show this month, he said.
"I’m very proud of the work I did to get the show started, and I decided it was time for me to get back home to be with the family and embark on the next stage of my career," he said.
Harris is looking at a variety of job options and plans to stay in the Midwest, he said.
While on the show, Harris had an agreement with NBC that allowed him to continue taking on some clients as part of his Jon Harris & Associates business, he explained. He also helped the show with PR and social media.
Harris continues to consult for several clients, and he will remain available for the show on a correspondent basis as needed, he added.
"It was a great experience and one I treasure, and I love [Vieira] and the rest of the team. I felt it was time to move and do something else," said Harris.
Representatives from The Meredith Vieira Show were not immediately available for comment.
Harris’ leap to the entertainment industry was not his first foray into television, having made previous appearances on Today, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Steve Harvey, Rachel Ray, and reality show Giuliana and Bill.
Prior to the show, Harris served as CCO of Hillshire Brands after Sara Lee split into two separate entities in 2012. Before that, he was SVP of global communications at Sara Lee for seven years.
He also previously served as VP of business development and global communications at Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp., VP of communications at OurHouse, and senior manager of global public affairs at PepsiCo.
