Jeb Bush takes first step towards the White House - on Facebook and Twitter

The son and brother of former presidents said on Twitter and Facebook on Tuesday that he's considering a bid for the White House himself. He's believed to be the first to announce his intentions on social media.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush will "actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States," he announced on Tuesday – not at an event or during a TV interview, but in a post on his Twitter account and Facebook page.

The Verge called it the first time a candidate said he is exploring a White House run on social media.

"In January, I also plan to establish a leadership PAC that will help me facilitate conversations with citizens across America to discuss the most critical challenges facing our exceptional nation. The PAC’s purpose will be to support leaders, ideas, and policies that will expand opportunity and prosperity for all Americans," he wrote. Bush said he had discussed it with his wife, Columba, over Thanksgiving dinner, surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

Bush’s announcement is the first among potential Republican Party candidates. An aide told ABC News "we’ll see" when asked if fellow Floridian Marco Rubio will pursue a campaign.
