NEW YORK: AIG has appointed Rhodri Williams to the newly created role of VP of communications and public affairs for EMEA.

He will step into the role on January 1, 2015, based in London. Williams will report to Christina Pretto, SVP of corporate communications, with a dotted reporting line to EMEA CEO Seraina Maag.

He has worked at AIG since June 2013, first as a strategic adviser to Maag and later as head of public affairs for the EMEA region, a position he has held since June.

In his new role, Williams will continue to act as the main strategic communications adviser to the regional leadership team for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He will lead development and execution of communications and public affairs strategies for the region.

Prior to AIG, Williams worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London in numerous stints since 1992.

Earlier in his career, Williams was a modern history lecturer at the University of Oxford in England.

Williams was not immediately available for comment.
