Trinity Mirror head of corporate comms Rupert Smith to join SMG

Media planning and buying agency Starcom MediaVest Group has hired Trinity Mirror head of corporate communications Rupert Smith as director of communications and brand marketing for its UK operations.

Smith is leaving the national and regional newspaper publisher, which is dealing with an ongoing police investigation into alleged phone hacking in its national newspaper division, today after nine years.

He will join Starcom in December and will report into co-CEOs Steve Parker and Pippa Glucklich as well as head of communications and brand marketing for Dynamic Markets, Claire Ballard.

Before joining Trinity Mirror as a senior press officer Smith was chief account manager at national news PR agency 72Point.
