PLMR wins air passenger duty campaign and Sky care homes accounts

Political Lobbying and Media Relations (PLMR) has secured two more accounts, representing the campaign to reduce air passenger duty and working for Sky Business to promote its TV and wi-fi packages in care homes and serviced apartments.

PLMR has an initial six-month contract representing the A Fair Tax on Flying campaign, a period that will include next year’s Budget. Westminster Public Affairs previously held the account.

A Fair Tax on Flying campaign, spearheaded by a coalition of airport operators, travel agents and airlines, calls for a reduction in air passenger duty, which it says is the highest in the world. It says UK passengers pay 400 per cent more than their counterparts in most other European countries.

PLMR will be focusing in particular on the impact the duty rates are having on families.

The consultancy represented the bingo industry as it successfully lobbied for a cut in bingo duty at the most recent Budget, a campaign that won the Public Affairs award at this year’s PRWeek Awards.

On its other new account win, PLMR said it would be "working closely" with the marketing team of Sky Business, the broadcaster’s b2b division, "to raise awareness of Sky’s tailored multichannel TV and wi-fi connectivity packages in the care home and serviced apartments sectors".

PLMR is the first agency to be appointed for this brief as Sky Business looks to expand into the sector.

The agency recently opened an office in Edinburgh, which is led by Lynn McMath, former press adviser for the Scottish shadow cabinet.
