Kapadia has spent the past 15 years in asset management communications, having previously headed the corporate comms teams at Hermes Investment Management, M&G Investments and Colonial First State Investments.
BNY, which manages assets worth more than US$1.6tn (£1tn), said: "The newly created role is intended to strategically raise and amplify the profile of the company and its numerous investment boutiques across Europe, Middle East and Africa."
Kapadia will report directly to Stan Neve, global head of investment management comms based in New York, with assistance from Scott Stevens, head of marketing for the EMEA region.
Stevens said: "In this newly created role, Asmita will spearhead PR at a strategic level to intensify the profile of BNY Mellon and that of its various boutiques, across EMEA.
"Corporate comms will be an integral part of the business sales and marketing mix and we welcome her to the BNY Mellon family."
