Josh Earnest risks selfie humiliation on World Series bet

He made the wager before the Royals lost to the Giants in game one of the World Series on Tuesday night.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was surely not grinning during game one of the World Series on Tuesday night.

His Kansas City Royals haven’t been this close to a world championship in nearly three decades, but that didn’t stop the White House press secretary from placing a good natured wager on their success in the Fall Classic.

Josh Earnest tweeted at Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday night about a bet between him and Biden press secretary Kendra Barkoff – who is presumably a San Francisco Giants fan. (Though Barkoff appears to have a Twitter account, she has never tweeted). The loser will admit defeat in a humiliating manner to any die-hard fan – donning the other team’s hat in a selfie with the victorious press secretary.

Anyone who follows Earnest on Twitter knows he’s no bandwagon Kansas City fan. During a June #AskPressSec Twitter chat, Earnest acknowledged he’s a fan of Royals Hall of Famer George Brett – and tacos. He also describes himself as a "life-long Royals fan" in his bio (right ahead of "Tweets may be archived.")

The Giants shellacked the Royals 7-1 in game one of the World Series on Tuesday night.
