Council of PR Firms names Ogilvy's Graves as chair

Newly minted Ogilvy Public Relations chairman Christopher Graves has been named the next chair of the Council of Public Relations Firms.

NEW YORK: The Council of Public Relations Firms has elected Christopher Graves, global chairman of Ogilvy Public Relations, as chairman.

Greentarget founding partner Aaron Schoenherr was named secretary and Taylor COO and managing partner Bryan Harris was elected treasurer.

FleishmanHillard’s Dave Senay most recently served as chairman of the Council, with Cone Communications chairman Jens Bang as treasurer and Tunheim Partners CEO Kathy Tunheim as secretary. Weber Shandwick CEO Andy Polansky is the immediate past chair of the group. Kathy Cripps serves as president.

Graves explained that content creation and marketing, the use of content in the right context for social and mobile, and behavioral science are among the specialties that can become areas of expertise through industry-wide education. He added that firms now rely heavily on educating staffers in-house.

In his agency role, Graves spent five years as Ogilvy PR’s global CEO before he was named chairman late last month. He has also served as the firm’s Asia-Pacific regional CEO. Graves has more than two decades of journalism experience that included time at Dow Jones, CNBC, and The Wall Street Journal. At CNBC, he served as head of network news and programming for the channel in Asia and Europe in separate stints.

Newly elected board members include Virginia Devlin of Current; Carrie Jones of JPA Health Communications; Daryl McCullough of Citizen Relations; Todd Hansen of O’Malley Hansen Communications; Ron Sachs of Sachs Media Group; and Karen van Bergen of Porter Novelli, according to the release.
