Tesla's Simon Sproule named Aston Martin CMO

Simon Sproule is leaving Tesla after a six-month stint as VP of communications and marketing to become Aston Martin's chief marketing officer.

GAYDON, UK: Simon Sproule, VP of communications and marketing at Tesla, will leave the electric car-maker next month to take on the role of CMO at Aston Martin.

Sproule, who joined Tesla in April after holding senior comms roles at Nissan Motor Company and the Renault-Nissan Alliance, will report to newly minted Aston Martin CEO and fellow Nissan alum Andy Palmer.

Palmer joined Aston Martin last week after spending 24 years at Nissan, most recently as chief planning officer.

Sproule will relocate from Palo Alto, California, to England next month. As CMO, a position that has been vacant at Aston Martin for a year, he will lead global marketing and communications.

When contacted by PRWeek, Sproule confirmed he is taking on the CMO role at the automaker, but declined to comment further.

Prior to his stint at Tesla, Sproule served as CVP of global marketing communications at Nissan Motor Company and director of marketing communications for the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

In 2009, Sproule rejoined Nissan to take the top communications position at the Renault-Nissan Alliance after a short time as corporate VP of corporate communications at Microsoft.

Last March, Sproule’s role was expanded to lead marcomms for the Renault-Nissan Alliance. He previously worked at Nissan from 2003 to 2009.

Representatives from Tesla and Aston Martin were not immediately available for comment.
