LONDON: Andy Weitz, former US president and CEO of Hill+Knowlton Strategies, will join insurance and risk management company Aon as SVP of global marketing and communications, effective October 1.
Weitz, who left the WPP agency on August 1, will report to Phil Clement, global chief marketing and communications officer at Aon, and join the company’s executive leadership team. Aon has been a client of Hill+Knowlton Strategies since 2012.
Weitz’s responsibilities in the newly created role will include overseeing external corporate communications, corporate citizenship, and content marketing. He will also focus on developing an integrated approach to product marketing at Aon.
Representatives from Aon were not available for comment.
"[Weitz] is among the best strategic counselors I’ve had the pleasure to work with, and his dedication to clients has been a hallmark of his," said Jack Martin, global chairman and CEO of H+K, in a statement. "I have full confidence that he will do great things as he creates this new role at Aon."
At the time of Weitz’s exit from H+K, the agency said in a statement that he had decided to "return to his entrepreneurial roots" and spend time with his family.
His departure followed on the heels of a global organizational realignment, in which Mike Coates, former chairman and CEO of H+K Canada, was named chief executive of the Americas region.
Before being promoted to US CEO in May 2013, Weitz served as global co-chair of the agency’s corporate practice. Prior to that, he spent a year as US COO.
Previously, Weitz served as senior strategist at H+K predecessor Public Strategies, where he helped lead the firm’s integration with Hill & Knowlton in 2011. He was also president of gDev, part of software company Trilogy, for less than a year.
Earlier in his career, Weitz worked at Trilogy in other roles and served as an aide to former US Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-NE).
