Maggs spent more than five years at the Cabinet Office and Prime Minister’s Office where she worked with Nick Hurd, former minister for civil society, developing a comms strategy for government policy on civil society.
Her previous roles include director at agency Kindred, and head of comms and campaigns at homelessness charity Crisis.
Maggs is also the former editor of Third Sector magazine.
In her new role Maggs will be supporting a nationwide project that will see 50 million gas and electricity smart meters installed in more than 26 million homes, giving consumers better information to choose the right tariff and supplier.
Maggs will also work with AAR Group to oversee the pitch for PR support for Smart Energy’s public engagement campaigns running from 2015 to 2020.
Earlier in the year Smart Energy selected AMV BBDO as its creative marketing agency, and PHD as media planning and buying agency, in a process also managed by AAR.
Maggs’ appointment coincides with the hire of Alicia Painter as media and comms officer. Painter joins Smart Energy GB from Chameleon where she was a comms executive.
Sacha Deshmukh, Smart Energy GB chief executive, said: "Lucy’s appointment is an important addition to Smart Energy GB’s consumer engagement skills. Her experience in government, in the campaigning charity sector and the media is second to none. We have a critical task to have a dialogue with every household in the country and demonstrate the role that smart meters will play in all our lives and Lucy will be an important part of our team."
