Charlene Chian, 42, is the corporate communications director for Facebook in Asia Pacific. In this Singapore-based regional role since early 2012, Chian has been key in building the company’s external communications programs across the region – which includes two of the top five largest markets for Facebook. These markets are also considered to be the fastest growing for Facebook.
Chian initiated programs to help media understand the benefits of the platform, drove thought-leadership opportunities for the company and drives rigour in landing impactful and quality coverage for the company. Chian joined Facebook from Microsoft, where she had held in-country, regional and international comms roles across a span of 10 years.
Chian holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore.
Facebook, which is said to have more than 250 million users across Asia, turned ten in 2014. It is said to be the single most comprehensive repository of personal histories in the world. And its impact on way people share personal stories and information continues to be subject of research and public debate.
