The 'Super Rich Cash Machines' stunt based in Tooting, London, has been set up by Betfair to celebrate the launch of its 'Price Rush' product.
News of the money-splurting cash machine broke on social media on Wednesday morning as users were sharing their delight. One user appeared to do the PR work for the brand, tweeting directly at news organisations:
The machine has so far given away £10,000 to cash machine users.
The machine, which accepts bank cards but does not ask for a PIN number or take any details from customers’ cards, simulates the process of genuinely taking out cash.
Betfair brand product manager Andy Holmes said: "The odds on getting more money than you expected at a cash machine are pretty slim but yesterday our Super Rich Cash Machines Price Rushed transactions, giving some users much more money than they requested."
The betting company has made a hidden-camera style video of customers' delight:
Residents have since cottoned on to the stunt, resulting in long queues to use the machine.
