Batelaan takes on the role having joined Edelman last summer from Scottish and Southern Energy, where he was head of European affairs.
He has also worked as a public affairs consultant in the Netherlands, advising clients on energy, climate and industrial policies, and acted as an adviser to the Dutch Labour Party in the Dutch Parliament.
Aspect Brussels MD Frans Green said: "We are very happy that Bas has joined us. With his deep public affairs and policy experience, and his modern political communications, he is a perfect fit for Aspect and our clients."
Batelaan, who joins Aspect as an associate director, added: "Working in the Brussels arena for so many years has given me an excellent perspective on the intricacies of the EU institutional and stakeholder environment. I’m really excited to be able to bring my experience to a consultancy committed to delivering tailored and results-driven services to its clients."
