NEW YORK: Finn Partners has acquired specialist agency gabbegroup’s health and education practice areas to expand its presence in those sectors.

The firms will join forces on October 1. They have collaborated on business pitches and some accounts over the past year.

"Acquiring gabbegroup gives us an opportunity to further strengthen our business in the education and healthcare fields," Finn Partners founding partner Peter Finn said. "Culturally, this is also a great fit for both of our firms."

As part of the deal, Finn Partners is bringing on gabbegroup founders Jill Gabbe and Jim Gabbe as senior advisers. They will serve existing clients and play strategic roles in supporting the firm’s expansion goals, Finn said.

In addition, gabbegroup’s health and education teams, comprised of seven staffers, will relocate to Finn Partners’ New York office.

The gabbegroup unit will report to Finn Partners Managing Partner Alicia Young.

Finn added that they will operate under the Finn Partners brand.

Raconteur, gabbegroup’s digital production arm, which creates educational documentaries, video services, and publishes books, will remain an independent company operating under the gabbegroup name.

There are no layoffs or client conflicts associated with this acquisition, Finn added.

"In Finn Partners, we have found an independent, entrepreneurial like-minded partner with complementary strengths," said Jill Gabbe. "With Finn, we are able to expand our reach and ability to anticipate dramatically evolving client needs. We, in turn, will support Finn in expanding and further building key sectors important to their growth, so this is a win-win."

The deal’s financial information was not disclosed.

This is the latest in a string of acquisitions Finn Partners has made since its split from Ruder Finn in late 2011. The firm has been pushing further into the public affairs and education spaces since its acquisition of Widmeyer Communications last July.

Finn Partners’ other recent acquisitions have included Chicago-based marketing and PR firm Healy & Schulte, and travel shop M. Silver Associates.
