AbbVie's Lewis joins Astellas to lead comms for medical, development group

In his newly created role, Andrew Lewis will report to SVP and CCO Jeff Winton and serve as a member of the company's corporate communications leadership team.

NORTHBROOK, IL: Astellas has named Andrew Lewis head of communications for the company’s global medical and development organization, effective September 8.

In his newly created role, Lewis will report to SVP and CCO Jeff Winton and serve as a member of the company’s corporate communications leadership team. Winton was named to his current role last November.

Lewis will oversee the development of internal and external communications strategies "that reinforce the culture and mission of the global medical and development organization globally, and raise the profile of Astellas among key stakeholders," according to a statement from Astellas. He will also work with the pharma giant’s investor relations and regional communications teams.

Lewis said his role will include telling "a consistent, unified story across the organization that resonates with all external stakeholders," and particularly financial audiences. He noted that a challenge in the position is making sure he is not only providing a "level of depth on the scientific or technical side," but making sure nothing is "lost in the details."

Lewis most recently worked at AbbVie as director of global public affairs and also had a stint at Baxter, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was also principal of Andrew Lewis Consulting.

Moyra Knight joined Astellas’ communications team in July as head of corporate and employee communications in the Americas, and Karl Uhlendorf was named communications and advocacy director in June.
