Harley’s responsibilities will include setting the strategic direction for comms as well as a public affairs dimension in which she will protect and promote Wood Group’s reputation.
The role has been vacant for almost a year after the previous incumbent, Nick Gilman, moved elsewhere in the company.
Commenting on the position, Harley said: "Open communications lead to shared knowledge and trust, key strengths of any successful business. I am delighted to help Wood Group to connect with all its audiences."
Harley brings with her a range of experience in traditional and digital comms as well as governance and stakeholder engagement.
Her last role was in BP Group’s comms leadership team and, before that, global head of comms for Castrol.
Harley, who took up her role last month, has also been head of internal comms for the UK arm of the insurance company AXA Life.
Bob Keiller, chief executive officer of Wood Group, said: "Yvonne’s passion for straightforward communication is exciting. It is all too easy in business to send out messages that are mixed or confusing. I am looking forward to ours being clearer, crisper and more consistent."
