Rosemary Mercedes is a highly effective communicator who secures major media coverage for Univision Communications. She joined the company in 2006 as a manager within the marketing group, which then oversaw PR. Mercedes was part of the team that founded the corporate communications and PR department in 2008 and helped spearhead the company’s first social media team in 2012.
Fluent in Spanish, she has used her skills to build bridges between Hispanic and non- Hispanic Americans. In 2012, she created and oversaw implementation of a communications strategy that successfully launched three new networks for Univision and UVideos, the bilingual digital network for Hispanic America, offering one of the most fully integrated social experiences in any language. She has also developed and orchestrated communications strategies to support Univision Communications’ upfront presentations over the last few years.
Not only is Mercedes able to secure major media coverage for Univision, but she has also won the respect and admiration of the many journalists she encounters. She has effectively positioned Univision with reporters – many who do not regularly consume Spanish-language media – as a top broadcast network, which directly competes with and often beats CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox. She spearheaded the most recent ratings news when Univision beat NBC as the number four network for the first time, prompting high-profile coverage on The Tonight Show, Late Show with David Letterman, and in The New York Times.
Prior to Univision, she worked in various PR roles across sectors including nonprofit and higher education.
