WASHINGTON: Burson-Marsteller subsidiary Direct Impact has named former FleishmanHillard SVP and partner Ralph Posner as EVP.
Speaking about his new role, Posner said he has "almost flipped the model" going from helping clients communicate policy goals within Washington to local districts, instead of the other way around. He added that it is "different and exciting" to focus more on grassroots efforts.
Posner will report to Nicole Cornish, CEO of Direct Impact.
He explained that clients’ policy objectives and legislative issues on the national and local levels are similar, pointing to examples like wage issues, corporate tax reform, and the gasoline tax as important topics.
He added that while the US Congress is generally seen as gridlocked, state legislatures are more active.
A Direct Impact spokesperson said Posner replaced Darren Bearson in the role. The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity hired Bearson as SVP for state affairs and outreach in April, according to his LinkedIn account.
A Fleishman representative was not immediately available for comment.
Most recently, Posner led the Washington public affairs division at FleishmanHillard. He also spent six years on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide to Sen. Bill Bradley (D-NJ) and Rep. John LaFalce (D-NY), as well as a VP at Ogilvy Public Relations.
