LOS ANGELES: Ogilvy Public Relations has appointed former Edelman SVP Jennifer Banovetz as SVP and brand marketing group director for the Western region, effective August 4.
Reporting to Nathan Friedman, regional MD for Ogilvy PR West, Banovetz will lead a group of about 20 staffers in the brand marketing practice on the West coast.
Previously, the brand marketing role was handled by Leslie Capstraw, who served as EVP, group director for brand marketing and head of the Los Angeles office before joining Weber Shandwick in March. Friedman said he decided to split up Capstraw’s prior position, tapping Patricia Galea as EVP and head of LA earlier this month and bringing on Banovetz for the brand marketing side.
Banovetz, who most recently served as an SVP in Edelman Los Angeles’ consumer brand practice, is charged with growing the brand marketing practice for Ogilvy PR West, which includes Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Denver.
In addition to client and business development and team leadership, Banovetz will work on multiple accounts such as Ford and LG Electronics, Friedman said.
She is also tasked with "establishing a clear point-of-view, not only within the industry, but within the Ogilvy network, about what makes Ogilvy PR West brand marketing different," Friedman explained.
The agency’s Western region is in the process of hiring some junior staffers for the brand marketing practice. Friedman said he will leave it up to Galea and Banovetz to decide how else they would like to expand in terms of staffing for the practice.
During her time at Edelman, Banovetz offered senior counsel to the firm’s global creative initiative, and she oversaw CSR efforts for Mattel. Before taking on the SVP role at Edelman Los Angeles, she served in the agency’s Chicago office, managing programs for a number of Dove products.
Prior to Edelman, Banovetz was a senior account supervisor at Cohn & Wolfe, where she worked on Chevron and Hilton Hotels. She also previously worked at Mazda North America.
