WASHINGTON: The National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts has named Robert Pflieger EVP of communications.
Pflieger, who started in the role at the beginning of June, is handling communications, publications, and marketing at NAREIT. He also serves on the association’s executive management team.
Most recently, Pflieger served as SVP of communications for the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, which helped him understand and communicate about "extremely complex industries," he said.
Before that, Pflieger spent several years in senior roles at GolinHarris, which recently rebranded to Golin.
While working at a PR agency vs. a trade association may seem like "very different animals," Pflieger said his philosophy for both is to remain client-focused with a sense of urgency.
He added that his trade association comms team is like "a mini PR firm."
When it comes to trade associations in Washington, Pflieger said he has always maintained three "main pillars" from a public affairs perspective, which include advocacy, education, and networking.
Earlier in his career, Pflieger held public affairs positions at the US Department of Labor and Office of the US Trade Representative.
A spokesman at the National Association of Home Builders said no one has been named yet as Pflieger’s replacement.
