Ogilvy taps former Edelman exec Galea as LA leader

Ogilvy Public Relations has appointed former Edelman SVP Patricia Galea as head of its Los Angeles office.

LOS ANGELES: Ogilvy Public Relations has appointed former Edelman SVP Patricia Galea as EVP and head of the Los Angeles office, effective July 10.

Galea will report to Nathan Friedman, regional MD for Ogilvy PR West. She will succeed Leslie Capstraw, who joined Weber Shandwick in March as EVP and GM of its Los Angeles office.

In addition to helping Ogilvy expand in entertainment, gaming, and automotive, Galea will work to deepen relationships with local LA brands, Friedman said. Ogilvy’s LA office has between 35 and 40 staffers.

"We looked at the direction of our team and our industry, and we needed someone who understood not only PR, but who could also apply learnings from digital advertising and the paid perspective," Friedman said of Galea.

Most recently, Galea was SVP and group head of Edelman Digital and the sector lead for the firm’s entertainment industry practice. Prior to Edelman, where she spent more than two years, she served as executive director of digital marketing and product strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide.

Before Disney, Galea held roles at Agency.com, Saatchi & Saatchi, and RPA.

Galea said the role at Ogilvy will allow her to incorporate her digital skills and work at an agency with many different practice areas and "a broader set of expertise and solutions for clients."

"There are so many exciting things in the LA market around the intersection of content creation, technology, consumer marketing, and storytelling, and there’s so much going on here that’s unique to LA," explained Galea.

The Los Angeles region has recently become home to many "strong creative startups," such as Beats by Dre, Snapchat, Maker Studios, and Nasty Gal, she added.
