NEW YORK: Airfoil has entered the New York market, bringing on former Weber Shandwick VP Kristen Stippich as SVP to lead its operations in the city.
Stippich, who previously worked at Airfoil for five years, will lead the New York presence, based in the WeWork Bryant Park co-working office space. She is reporting directly to Lisa Vallee-Smith, co-CEO.
Vallee-Smith said Stippich was the right candidate to lead the New York operation for a number of reasons, including her technology experience, her history of working at global agencies and with large tech companies, and her cultural connection to Airfoil.
The firm is planning to eventually open a permanent office in New York, but it will ride out the rest of this year at WeWork, said Janet Tyler, Airfoil co-CEO. She added that the firm used a "business accelerator" space for its other offices because it can provide "tremendous flexibility and time to access the market."
The firm did not disclose what clients it will serve from its New York location. It is planning to hire another staffer this year to work in New York.
At the moment, Airfoil New York will focus on growing existing client relationships, but it will try to delve into New York City’s "quickly emerging technology industry" on a long-term basis, said Vallee-Smith, in a statement.
Most recently, Stippich spent more than three years at Weber Shandwick as a VP in the firm’s New York technology practice. While at Weber, she worked with clients such as Verizon Wireless, Microsoft, and Quidsi.
Previously, she was an account supervisor at Ogilvy Public Relations in New York, where she worked on accounts including Vimeo, Genpact, and iShares. Stippich also spent five years in Airfoil’s Detroit office in roles including account coordinator and account supervisor.
In addition to offices in Detroit and New York, the firm has a location in Sunnyvale, California. It hired David Bailey, former SVP and GM at Text100 to serve as EVP and GM of the firm's California office last October. Airfoil also has a global partner network that includes Newell in Hong Kong, Six Degrees in the UK, and Planin in Brazil.
Last January, Airfoil partnered with London-based Babel PR on an affiliate relationship that allowed the firms to use their joint resources to coordinate programs across the North and South American and EMEA markets.
This article was updated on June 3 to change the location of Airfoil's Silicon Valley office. The firm has moved from Mountain View to Sunnyvale. It was also updated with comments from Airfoil representatives.
