Two leadership appointments at Genesis Burson-Marsteller

India Practice Chairs appointed for Health & Wellness and Brand & Consumer business

In what is being seen as move to accelerate growth the Mumbai-based Genesis Burson-Marsteller has given Krishna Vilasini Bharadwaj additional responsibility as the new India Practice Chair (IPC), Health and Wellness Practice and hired network TV business veteran Charu Benegal as India Practice Chair (IPC), Brand and Consumer Practice.

A former journalist, Bharadwaj was earlier the Co-Chair (West and South) of the Brand and Consumer Practice. In her new role she will work closely with partner firm Medulla Communications to manage healthcare clients and at the same time continue to lead work for broadcast and entertainment clients in Mumbai. She has worked across clients in FMCG, healthcare, technology and fashion verticals and managed healthcare assignments before.

"With more players, increased competition and closely followed regulatory framework, differentiated communications will be a key to win in the healthcare marketplace," she said.

Charu Benegal

Benegal takes on the role of IPC for Brand and Consumer. She has more than 20 years of domestic and global experience in public relations, marketing and events. Her last assignment was in New York where she worked at the News Corp-owned Star TV. Her assignment concentrated on business development and customised advertising solutions for clients. Prior to that, Charu headed a Public Relations agency’s Mumbai operations. She has had a long stint in the entertainment business with Sony Entertainment Television.

She joined Sony Entertainment Television when the cable and satellite industry in India was very nascent. Benegal oversaw its expansion in North America where she launched Sony’s Indian film distribution business.
