PRCA vs NLA verdict due on 5 June

The PRCA will find out whether it has won its European court battle with the Newspaper Licensing Authority (NLA) in two weeks, it has emerged.

The ruling follows a series of legal battles between the PRCA, which is supporting media monitoring agency Meltwater, and the NLA over the NLA’s assertion that temporary copies of copyrighted material created while viewing articles online need authorisation from rights holders.

PRCA director general Francis Ingham said: "We are pleased to see that the ruling will be made in June, and we very much hope that the Court of Justice of the European Union's decision will be in our favour, in light of previous sensible CJEU decisions and the compelling reasoning of the UK Supreme Court."
