LONDON: GroupM, WPP’s media planning and buying network, has consolidated its corporate communications, PR, marketing, and business development with one centralized team, naming Cindy Kerber Spellman director of global marketing and corporate communications.
In the newly created role, Kerber Spellman, who most recently led communications for R&D and innovation unit GroupM Next, is responsible for leading internal communications, external PR, and marketing. She is focusing on directing both the GroupM global brand strategy and North American vision.
Kerber Spellman, who joined GroupM in 2006, will also work closely with the regional leaders and communications team in EMEA.
She is reporting to Mike Tunnicliffe, who was appointed to the new role of chief growth and marketing officer. Tunnicliffe, who has led the group’s new business development as global growth officer for the past three years, is overseeing business development, marketing, corporate communications, and PR. He is reporting to GroupM global president Dominic Proctor and North America CEO Kelly Clark.
Both roles are effective immediately. John Wolfe, managing partner and director of communications at GroupM, has transitioned to a consulting role at the network.
Kerber Spellman said the strategy behind the consolidation and the new roles is to "unify" GroupM’s positioning, which is nuanced across markets.
"We are really defining who was are, both internally and to the marketplace," she said. "The challenge and opportunity is the unification of who we are across regions and supporting the good work our agencies do."
This will involve reinforcing its position in innovation, applying data, and incubating new services.
GroupM employs 5,000 people globally.
