SAN FRANCISCO: Moxtra, a venture launched by WebEx co-founder Subrah Iyar, has brought on Finn Partners as AOR.
Finn Partners began working with the startup on April 1. The firm is helping Moxtra with a PR program concentrated on media relations in the mobile sector, said Finn Partners senior partner and mobile practice leader Christine Bock.
Five agency staffers based in San Francisco, supported nationally by the mobile team, will handle the Moxtra account. Finn Partners associate partner Ty Sheppard will oversee day-to-day PR efforts.
Moxtra previously worked with PR and social media firm BlastMedia since 2012. Iyar and BlastMedia SVP Sabrina List declined to say why the relationship ended last month.
"Finn Partners was highly recommended based on the agency’s track record in the mobile industry and its general expertise in media strategy and thought leadership," Iyar added.
Moxtra did not issue a formal RFP for the business, Iyar said. Budget information on the account was not disclosed.
Launched last year, Moxtra is a mobile content collaboration service. Iyar started the company in 2012 after selling WebEx to Cisco in 2007 for $3.2 billion.
"Mobile messaging is such a hot area in mobile right now, with the recent acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook being a good testimony to that," Bock said. "Moxtra is sort of a WhatsApp meets Basecamp power-messaging service."
Earlier this year, Jamba Juice selected Finn Partners as its agency for PR and social media following a competitive review.
