SAN FRANCISCO: Following a comprehensive search, direct-to-consumer insurance company Esurance has selected Alan Gellman as CMO, based in the company’s San Francisco headquarters and managing communications as part of his role.
Reporting to president and CEO Gary Tolman, Gellman will oversee all of Esurance's marketing and advertising efforts, including direct marketing, online and offline advertising, search, brand partnerships, and customer experience, as well as comms.
Gellman has joined Esurance from Wells Fargo, where he worked for ten years. He started at the bank in 2004 as SVP for marketing strategy, and in 2008, he moved into the SVP of digital marketing role at the company. He led agency searches and focused on integrating marketing efforts and capabilities across disciplines, according to a statement from Esurance.
Previously, he was director of consumer marketing for Blue Shield of California, and later became VP of the organization’s e-business division. Gellman has also served as director of consumer and trade marketing for ConAgra and product manager for Kraft General Foods. He began his marketing career in advertising, serving as a media planner at Saatchi & Saatchi.
