The Conservative Party has hired former ITV producer Denise Howard to handle communications in Wales as part of a election-driven expansion of its regional campaign clout.
PRWeek understands that Howard, who recently worked on the channel’s Daybreak programme and previously reported for ITV Wales, is joining in a new press officer role reporting to Conservative director of comms Giles Kenningham.
A Tory source told PRWeek: "She has an impressive track record in TV, which will be a key battleground for the election, and the hire is part of a wider bulking up in the regions in the run-up to the general elections."
Howard's is the fifth of a planned seven appointments for the party across Britain. So far it has hired people to cover the West Midlands, the South West, and the North.
The Conservative Party declined to comment.
