Kansas City, MO-based agency Crossroads is handling PR for Quiznos as the sandwich chain prepares to file for bankruptcy protection due to falling sales and debt of $570 million.
Quiznos brought Crossroads on as its consumer PR AOR two years ago, according to the firm's president Mike Swenson. He said no other firms are assisting the company with this matter.
"The bottom line is, the company is still working through the issues," he said. "There are no final resolutions yet, so no messages to deliver at this point."
Swenson would not comment on the company's communications strategy.
A representative from Quiznos was not immediately available for comment.
Quiznos has been negotiating a restructuring plan that would streamline its trip through bankruptcy with creditors, but a deal has not yet been worked out, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In 2012, hedge fund Avenue Capital Group became majority owner of the chain in a debt-for-equity restructuring deal. In 2006, the Denver-based company had over 5,000 franchises in the US. That number has dwindled to about 1,200. Quiznos has locations in 30 countries outside the US.
