Brainstorms in our consultancy are a disaster. One director dominates and is often scathing of other people’s ideas. Please don’t tell me not to invite her. We have tried that and she comes anyway.
I fear that in my early days, I was rather overbearing –though hopefully not dismissive – in brainstorms. As we got busier, I was unable to get to them all. To my amazement, the creative ideas continued to flow – and even improve.
Ask the boss to tell your brainstorm bully that her creative genius and charismatic personality are making it hard for the younger staff to develop and bloom. Hopefully, Ms Bully will be so flattered that she will adopt the stance that she is now too senior and important to go to brainstorms.
