Is an MA in PR worth it?

Agony uncle and University of Westminster's visiting professor of PR Trevor Morris gives it to you straight.

I study law and German, and hope to go into PR. I was wondering how beneficial it would be to take an MA in PR. Would it increase my employability? I have participated in a work experience placement, as well as writing for the student newspaper. But I  haven’t had any formal PR training.

An MA in PR gained in London seems to go down very well outside of the UK. Employers abroad often treat it as not only an indicator of a strong commitment to PR, but also a big tick in terms of having studied, and maybe even worked, in the world’s second-biggest PR market. UK employers tend to be less impressed, partly because they already have a plentiful supply of savvy London types. Brits are also generally less impressed by postgraduate qualifications, as some regard them as an attempt to delay actually having to start work.
