SACRAMENTO, CA: The California Travel and Tourism Commission, also known as Visit California, has issued an RFP seeking an agency to promote the state as a premiere travel destination within the US and Canada.
The account is valued at up to $300,000 annually, with three options to renew for one-year, according to RFP documents seen by PRWeek. The winning agency will begin work on or near July 1.
Development Counsellors International (DCI) has handled the account since July 2009. The agency confirmed it will bid again for the account during this search process.
The winning firm will be charged with developing and executing a PR program aligned with Visit California's brand strategy. It will use a variety of channels and leverage the organization's advertising and marketing initiatives, according to the RFP.
The winning firm will work to increase domestic and Canadian visitors to the state by creating and executing standalone PR or integrated marketing campaigns, executing media events, media relations, and serving as an in-market media expert and resource.
Agencies are required to have tourism PR experience and an office in California. The organization wants bidding firms to submit their scope of work for a $300,000 budget and a modified scope for a $200,000 annual budget.
Agency questions about the process must be submitted by January 24, and the non-bidding notice of intent is due by the end of the month. Proposals will be due on February 28, and first-round interviews will occur the week of March 19. The contract will be awarded on April 1, according to the RFP.
Representatives from Visit California did not return calls seeking comment.
