CHICAGO: Interpublic Group has acquired German consumer lifestyle agency Nicole Weber Communications, which it will add to GolinHarris' European network.
Nicole Weber has offices in both Hamburg and Munich. Nicole Weber, CEO of the eponymous firm, will report to Matt Neale, president of GolinHarris International.
The agency has created campaigns for consumer clients including Hendrick's Gin, Renault, Pringle of Scotland, and Campari.
The deal is part of GolinHarris' initiative to expand globally, said Harris Diamond, CEO of Interpublic's Constituency Management Group, in a statement.
Last June, Fred Cook, president and CEO of GolinHarris, told PRWeek that the firm was redesigning its agency model to double in size globally in the next 10 years. He said the restructuring process would take about a year to complete.
Cook said Thursday that Weber is a “dynamic powerhouse of an individual who built this firm on her own, and she's extremely well connected in the German market.”
He added that Golin will significantly improve its consumer capabilities in the country.
“We'll have a much stronger consumer lifestyle practice, because we're primarily financial and corporate in our Frankfurt office. So it was harder to serve some of our global consumer clients without having that capability,” said Cook.IPG acquired a majority stake of Brazilian agency S2Publicom last September, expanding the presence of GolinHarris and Weber Shandwick in South America.
“We now have 26 people, and we would love to grow more and work for a lot of international clients. We thought at one point that if you want to grow, you need a big partner to do it the right way because if you do it on your own as a small agency, it's very hard,” said Weber. “I was looking for networks that fit perfectly with my agency and my team, and GolinHarris came and asked if I wanted to meet them.”
