Netflix CMO Leslie Kilgore has stepped down after a tumultuous year for the entertainment service.

The company also shook up its communications structure. Jonathan Friedland, who previously led all PR activity as VP of global corporate communications, was named CCO. He will report directly to CEO Reed Hastings, according to Steve Swasey, VP of corporate communications.

Jessie Becker, previously Netflix's VP of marketing, will take over as CMO on an interim basis. She is an 11-year Netflix veteran, and previously worked at Amazon.com and Oracle.

Last year, the company faced a wave of backlash from consumers when it raised prices, and then said it would spin off its DVD-by-mail business into a new company known as Qwikster. However, it rescinded that decision a month later.

The company declined to comment on the recent changes within its communications and marketing departments.
