WASHINGTON: Industry trade group the American Beverage Association (ABA) has hired APCO Worldwide to provide PR support.
The relationship is not an AOR agreement, said Tracey Halliday, VP of communications at ABA. She added that the group hires “outside assistance as it is needed,” but declined to provide specifics about the nature of the firm's work.
In recent months, ABA and other industry groups have deflected criticism that its members are to blame for obesity. It has released several statements responding to studies on the effect of soda on the human body, and it has also publicly supported first lady Michelle Obama's “Let's Move!” anti-obesity initiative.
Edelman has also developed anti-obesity campaigns for ABA in the past. The industry group has also worked with Goddard Claussen.
