BEIJING: Edelman has hired Cindy Tian as regional vice chairman of the Asia-Pacific region.
Effective March 15, she will lead the agency's China public affairs group from Beijing, reporting to Thomas Mattia, chair of Edelman China. Edelman appointed Mattia to that position last month.
Working with local practice heads, Tian will oversee cross-practice and cross-agency cooperation within government relations and public affairs. She will also work on business-development initiatives within the public affairs space and provide client counsel.
Tian will also be a member of the firm's global public affairs board. Most recently, she was executive chairwoman of Burson Marsteller China, where she had worked since 2006.
Tian was a Chinese diplomat from the mid 1980's through the mid-1990's, and was part of the first group of external communications professionals trained by the Chinese government. As a diplomat, she focused on culture exchanges and external communications, with overseas postings in the US and the Caribbean.
